The Barcelona we want is an open, proudly diverse city. We are aware that we are living in exceptional times and that the only way we can face the challenges of the 21st century is through cooperation, innovation and changing the ways we do politics.
The Barcelona of the future is a healthier city that bolsters and promotes community life in our neighbourhoods and creates green spaces for everyone. A city where our children can grow up happily and where the elderly can access and enjoy its streets and squares. A city that takes care of the health and welfare of people and the planet.

Barcelona Superblock
We want to make Barcelona a more sustainable city that improves people’s quality of life, which is why we are promoting a very distinctive and unique project: Barcelona Superblock.
-
Right to housing
We are the administration that has made the biggest investment in housing. We work in conjunction with social entities, residents associations and professionals from the sector in different areas of housing, including the promotion of new public rental flats, the mobilization of empty housing, and the support of housing cooperatives.
-
Diversified and innovative economy
We want to play a leading role in the post-Covid-19 era and to consolidate the city as the scientific and cultural capital of the Mediterranean, at the forefront of the European transition towards a greener and circular economy that will improve people's quality of life.
-
Diverse and feminist city
We want to be a city of freedom, respect and equality, where everybody can be who they want to and where this is something to be happy about and proud of. A diverse and feminist Barcelona.
-
A city to play in
We want the city to be a more pleasant place, where children can play. Because of this, we combine action in public spaces and school playgrounds with measures to encourage play outdoors and help stimulate creativity, generating new spaces and improving existing ones to make them more accessible, participatory and open.
-
The animal-friendly city
Barcelona is an animal-friendly city. We have been working on their defence and protection for many years, with the collaboration and support of all the organisations and volunteers concerned.
-
Barcelona Caring City
Barcelona is a caring city, which recognises the social value of care and aims to ensure the right to care and be cared for under conditions of dignity and quality. Because although care is essential for life, until now, the professions and places dedicated to care have been a predominantly insecure, invisible and feminised area.
-
A city that cares for people’s mental health
The health emergency has highlighted the importance of looking after our mental health and that of our loved ones. We need to protect mental health with specific public policies and a budget, not just with words.
-
City international benchmark
Barcelona has been recognised as the European Capital of Democracy (2023-2024), European Capital of Inclusion and Diversity (2022) and the Spanish State’s Culture and Science Capital (2021), designated the host city for the 2024 of the Manifesta Art Biennial, and distinguished as the World Capital of Sustainable Food (2021), World Capital of Time Policies (2022-2023), European Capital of Sustainable Mobility (until 2026) and World Capital of Architecture (2026).
-
Cultural and Science Capital
Culture is part of our city’s personality. It is a priority sector for us so that’s why we allocate 6% of our budget to it, a percentage much higher than that of other administrations. We believe culture is part of our lives and a powerful tool for transformation.

Boost for public services
Barcelona leads the way in social investment per inhabitant and is strengthening its public services. We innovate with pioneering services, such as the municipal dental service for people in vulnerable situations.
