The new ‘Meet with the Mayor’ of the Sant Martí neighbourhoods was held on Tuesday 14 March, in the function room at the Gabriel García Márquez library, an emblematic local venue that in less than a year has already become the epicentre of cultural and civic life throughout the neighbourhoods that make up what is known as “La Verneda de Sant Martí”.
The meeting brought together a large number of people, all with a passionate commitment to where they live, and who made numerous contributions on a broad range of matters, sharing their concerns and suggestions on many issues, from mobility and the layout of public space to safety in housing and education.
Furthermore, they put forward a lot of proposals alongside demands related to facilities for young people, public transport, pollution and local commerce, together with questions of broad general interest that reflect the desire to build a fairer, greener and more humane city.

Mayor's office in the districts
The “Mayor’s Office in the Districts” is an initiative that takes the Government Commission, one of the city’s main decision-making bodies, to all the city’s districts. It was created to give neighbourhoods access to not just institutional but also everyday activities and find out at first hand the reality of each of the city’s 73 neighbourhoods. It therefore responds to the calls made by residents during the activity of the mayor’s office in neighbourhoods: providing channels to give residents access to the institutional activities being carried out by the Mayor’s Office.

Children have plenty to say
Children are citizens in their own right and must be taken into account. Children’s rights are a priority for the Mayor of Barcelona. Because of this, during the Covid-19 health emergency the Mayor made the case for children’s rights and denounced the adult-centred perspective employed to manage the pandemic. Here are some of the projects we are implementing from a perspective which includes our youngest citizens.
