Meeting with the Mayor in La Marina

More than 200 local residents took part in the Meeting with the Mayor on Tuesday, 14 June, at the Sala Pepita Casanellas. This is the second time that Ada Colau has come by in person to listen to and answer questions from local residents of La Marina de Port and La Marina del Prat Vermell, with her January 2016 visit one of the first of these Meetings with the Mayor in the city’s neighbourhoods. Local residents generally expressed their pride at living in La Marina and took the opportunity to make specific demands for improvements, such as air conditioning in the Sala Maremar, shade in Plaça de la Marina de Sants and toilets in the skate park in Plaça del Moviment Obrer.

A good many of the interventions – which the Mayor answered ten at a time, with help from the Sants-Montjuïc Councillor, Marc Serra – were asking for improvements in the cleaning and maintenance of public spaces, starting with various parks and gardens in La Marina, then Can Clos and finally Passeig de la Zona Franca itself. Some local residents pointed out that the new bike lanes between the pavement and service lane would prove dangerous.

The Mayor called for co-responsibility from city residents to ensure positive community life in public spaces. The Councillor did not rule out moving the position of these bike lanes in the street later on when the entire Passeig de la Zona Franca is reurbanised. More pressingly to this effect was the matter of definitively connecting them to the cyclist network, bringing the bike lane down to street level from Gran Via to Plaça d’Espanya, something that another local resident called for and which will be carried out in the coming months. Now that La Marina has a metro station, several residents called for the continuation of improvements to mobility, with more frequent bus services to be able to reach neighbourhoods such as Can Clos, especially on weekends, and connecting La Marina to Barcelona centre on foot and by bike through Morrot.
