The Mayor will have turned down more than 375,000 euros of her legally entitled salary during her two terms of office, from 2015 to 2023.

The official salary assigned to her office is €100,000 a year. If the Mayor was to receive her full salary and the expenses she is entitled to as the chair of the Metropolitan Area, her monthly income would be € 7,000. Instead, she receives a net salary of € 3,191 a month, waives her subsistence allowances and gives the rest of her salary to social projects. 

When Barcelona en Comú entered the municipal government in 2015, it believed that councillors’ salaries were too high and suggested lowering them all. The proposal was rejected by the CiU, PSC, PP and Cs political party groups and did not prosper. Since then, BComú councillors have been voluntarily applying the salary restrictions that feature in the party’s Code of Ethics.
