All our cities share the 15-minute model set out by Anne Hidalgo in Paris or the caring neighbourhoods that Claudia Lopez talked about. They're all similar in meaning. In Barcelona we talk about the Superblocks, but in reality we are talking about the same thing. We're talking about a city that puts people at the centre - something as basic as that. And to do away with the madness we have in Barcelona, where 60% of public space is occupied by cars while only 10% of residents use a car to get around. That doesn't make sense.

It is a polluted, unhealthy, noisy and unfair city, so we had to change it and we've started doing just that. There is some resistance, but it's becoming increasingly common for city residents to ask us to do more and faster.

We are transforming the city with more greenery, public transport, bike lanes and quality space. Everywhere we've transformed is filling with life.  And it happens straight away. You may ask, where were all these boys and girls? Well, shut away at home until they had space and became the city’s central stakeholders.

We are showing that another type of city really could be built, a city for people and caring. So I am very excited to participate in this movement of unstoppable cities that have decided to put people at their centre and where no pressure or lobby can make us change our minds. Because city residents are clear about it and so are we.
